Course Introduction

Applied Business Academy is offering challenging and exciting City & Guilds Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals. The qualification is suitable for those who want to work in a number of job roles in the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) sector, either with an ICT company or within an ICT department in an organisation, or gain access to an Apprenticeship or higher education.
You will be able to effectively work with ICT, and to deal with tasks that are typically complex and non-routine in nature. Use ICT tools for a given purpose to work with ICT hardware or devise solutions to support others.

Course Delivery and Support

Classroom Sessions – On Wednesdays/Saturdays (8 -20) weeks

On-going support via email and telephone through allocated tutor.

We use a virtual learning environment, and candidates must complete all online courses within the portal.

Online delivery of practical and theory with work related scenarios and actual work based assignments.

Part of the time is will spent in practical labs.

030 Customer support provision for the ICT professional

This will enable the learner to provide technical customer support and understand the processes involved in improving the way in which customers use networked ICT systems
Technical Competency Units covered will include the following:

031 Networking principles

This unit is aimed at advanced Networking and builds on the fundamentals of computer networks and desktop PC support and prepares you for third line support roles where network operations and troubleshooting are now more fundamental to the job role. Learn how to set up a client/server computer network which includes setting up protocols such as DNS, DHCP and Active Directory.
The learner will:
1.Appreciate physical and logical topologies and systems
2. Understand the protocols model

040 Principles of ICT system and data security

This unit explores the areas of growing threats in ICT. Learners will understand why security is necessary, the potential dangers, and how to protect systems and data. This module develops in-depth knowledge and understanding of the types of threat to ICT systems and data and methods of protecting against them including the applications of cryptography.
The learner will:
1.Understand the common types of threat to ICT systems and data such as hardware damage, loss and theft, electronic threats such as denial of service, data theft or damage, unauthorised use.
2.Manage the security vulnerabilities associated with remote access technologies.
3.Methods to protect ICT systems; physical access control and security, electronic access control and security for ICT systems using firewalls, virtual networks, secure connection/transfer protocols, secure wireless connection)
Understand the applications of cryptography to ICT systems and cryptographic algorithms.

701 & 758 Cisco IT Essentials

This is an overarching unit that covers elements from all the above units and mapped alongside CISCO official curriculum for IT Essentials. The aim is to provide the underpinning knowledge required for the Cisco IT Essentials exam. Learner will learn to define a range of computer components and elements of the troubleshooting process. They will also learn to evaluate and upgrade security components in an operating system. Lastly the learner will learn to maintain a computer network. Learners will cover both the exams.
The learner will:

1.Be able to manage the support of operating systems and security requirements
2.Evaluate and upgrade advanced security components based on customer needs and perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting

3.Install, and support a range of operating systems; upgrade components based on organisational needs and perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.

4.Be able to maintain networked system.

633 Configuring Windows based systems

This unit provides the skills and knowledge necessary to configure or support Windows based systems. You will have the ability configure or support Windows computers, devices, users, and associated network and security resources. The networks will typically be configured as domain-based or peer-to-peer environments with access to the Internet and cloud services. This unit is linked to the Microsoft Official Academic Course (MOAC) and Exam for Configuring Windows.
The learner will:
1.Be able to install Windows, use window tools
2.Manage user state
3.Configure network access
4.Configure resource access, remote access
5.Manage file access

634 Installing and configuring Windows based servers

This unit provides the skills and knowledge necessary to implement a core Windows Server infrastructure. A learner achieving this unit will have the ability to implement and configure Windows Server core services, such as Active Directory and the networking services.
This unit is linked to the Microsoft Official Academic Course (MOAC) and Exam for Installing and Configuring Windows Server.
The learner will:

1.Be able to deploy Windows based servers including planning and configuring.
2.Maintain domain controllers.
3.Implement Internet Protocol (IP), DHCP server, DNS server ,

4.Manage user accounts, group policies and server storage.

Entry requirements

No previous experience or qualifications in ICT are expected. However we do expect a good standard of English along with the drive to succeed in the ICT industry
C&G Level1/Level 2 with English and maths at Level 1 is desirable. The Level 3 Certificate in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals qualification is perfect for those looking to gain some in-depth skills and knowledge to start a career in an ICT job role. Students with other relevant qualifications and appropriate industry experience will be considered.

Loan covers the full fee charged for the course

Loan doesn’t depend on household income.

Loan is directly paid to registered/approved provider.

The loan is repayable, but only when your income is over £25,000 a year.

Repayments start the April after you complete or withdraw from your course and your income is over £25,000 a year.

Your repayments will stop if your income drops below £25,000 a year.

You’ll repay 9% of your income over £25,000 and if you’re employed deductions will be made from your pay through the HMRC tax system.*

Any outstanding loan balance will be cancelled 30 years after entering repayment.

Voluntary repayments can be made if you want to pay off your loan more quickly
